Learning Objectives

  1. Practice your musculoskeletal interpretation paradigm.
  2. Identify the following anatomic structures on the case radiographs- upper incisors, lower incisors, interalveolar space, body of the mandible, incisive bone, maxilla, upper pre-molars, lower premolars.
  3. Understand the different types of periosteal reaction and their relationship to margination/contour.
  4. Understand the 3 characteristics that determine aggressive vs. nonaggressive bone lesions: cortical destruction, periosteal reaction, transition zone
  5. Consider the physiologic significance of organized vs. unorganized periosteal reactions.
  6. Propose possible diagnostic tests that could provide a definitive diagnosis for this case.
